Who is KAYA?
Kaya is the name of our eight year old grandson. He thinks it's "neat" to have his
name on the building. He tells anyone who will listen that he has a store in
Las Cruces, New Mexico, and if they go there his Gramps will "give" them a shirt!"

ABOUT OUR LOGO
The design of this logo is based on the New Mexico location and the symbol
used on the New Mexico flag. The Zia, an original Native American sacred
symbol representing the sun, is a circle with four rays radiating outward of
varying lengths. To the Zia Indian, the sacred number is embodied in the
earth, with its four directions; in the year, with its four seasons; and in many
other aspects of the circle of life. The symbol was appropriated for use on the New Mexico flag, and it is for that reason that it now holds such a strong association with that location. It is used in various ways in many commercial environments. It is with sensitivity for the sacred nature of the four rays in the symbol that the Kaya's Cottons and Things for the Desert logo is designed with three rays, but still radiating in four directions to recall the now prevalent use of the symbol associated with the location, the sun and desert, and its roots in New Mexico.
The cotton is conveyed in a subtle manner that utilizes the negative space in the center of the symbol to portray the soft and puffy cotton flower. The stem of the cotton is integrated with the symbol portion of the mark by serving as the third ray emanating downward.
The colors for the Kaya's Cottons and Things for the Desert logo were chosen with the desert setting in mind. The reddish brown of the mark combined with the complex dark turquoise is reminiscent of pottery jewelry of the area. The colors are brought down from their full saturation to convey the natural earthen quality that they are intended to convey. |
